The William A. O'Neill Athletic & Convocation Center

Westside Campus

Completed in 1995, the 80,000-square-foot William O'Neill Athletic and Convocation Center acts as a multi-purpose athletic facility for the Westside campus and houses many of WestConn's athletic and recreational offices. Equipped with a weight room, swimming pool and locker rooms, the O'Neill Center also contains the Feldman Arena, where WestConn's basketball and volleyball teams hold home competitions. The arena can seat 4,500 spectators and is often used for concerts, keynote speakers and a variety of college shows.

The O'Neill Center houses Sports Information and offices for the baseball, men's and women basketball, softball, swimming, tennis and volleyball teams.

The Westside Athletic Complex (The WAC)

Opened: August, 2003

Capacity: 2,500

The Westside Athletic Comples houses the Colonials' football, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's lacrosse, and field hockey teams.

The complex, adjacent to the William A. O'Neill Athletic and Convocation Center, seats 2,500 and is surfaced with state-of-the art SprintTurf.

Offices for football, soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey are housed in the structure's second floor. Several locker rooms and an athletic training room are housed on the lower level. A press box, two coaches boxes, two video platforms and VIP room occupy the upper level.

PHOTOGRAPHERS:  For safety reasons, only participants, officials and game personnel are allowed on the playing surface at all times.  No parents are allowed inside the fence.  Visiting Sports Information Directors must obtain clearance for all photographers by contacting Scott Ames, the Associate Athletic Director at (203) 837-9014, two days prior to an event. 

Stephen Feldman Arena

Opened: December, 1994

Capacity: 2,800

The Stephen Feldman Arena, named after former Western Connecticut State University President, was dedicated at a ribbon-cutting ceremony in January of 1995.

The arena seats up to 2,800 for events including WestConn collegiate varsity teams, the world famous Harlem Globetrotters, home shows, concerts, trade shows, college and high school commencement ceremonies, an annual World Fly-Fishing Show, and several and other entertaining events.

The 1999, 2000, and 2001 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championships welcomed collegiate basketball fans from around the nation to the Stephen Feldman Arena.

 

Baseball and Softball Fields & Tennis Courts

The baseball, softball and men's and women's tennis teams practice and play exclusively on the Westside campus.

Outdoor facilities include The WAC, where football, men's soccer, women's soccer, field hockey, men's lacrosse and women's lacrosse.

Baseball

The baseball field is located at your first right-hand turn when coming up University Blvd.  The Westside Field is an enclosed field with chain-linked fencing encompassing the entire field.  Custome dugouts welcome the Colonials and their opponents.  There is seeting for approximately 500 fans and a lighted scoreboard is in clear view.

Softball

The softball diamond is at the rear of the O'Neill Center.  The Westside Field is an enclosed field with chain-linked fencing encompassing the entire field.  There are bleacher seats available for approximately 300 fans, but adjacent to the field is a hill which can accommodate thousands of fans.

Men's and Women's Tennis

The Westside Courts are asphalt painted in tennis green and lined with white lines.  There are six courts, three of them lighted, giving the Colonials the opportunity to finish every home match (weather permitting).
