Completed in early September 2011, Hannaford Field is the newest
addition to the University of Southern Maine's athletic
facilities. The 93,100-square foot field features a new Field
Turf® surface and will serve as the home site for USM's men's
and women's soccer, field hockey, and men's and women's lacrosse
teams.
Led by lead gifts from Hannaford Brothers and the United States
Soccer Foundation, construction on the privately financed $1.1
million field began in late June when the United States Army Corps
of Engineers and Shaw Brothers Construction Company prepared the
site for the new turf. The field is sited on the previous
natural surface soccer field that was originally constructed in the
fall of 1996 and opened for play in 1997.
The Field Turf® surface at Hannaford Field is the first phase
of a long-range project that includes lights and stadium seating
for 500 as funds are acquired.
