For nearly 100 years, Boswell Field has been one of the most renowned sports venues in collegiate athletics. During 2010, the Boz was upgraded with the installation of state-of-the-art FieldTurf and lighting for night games and practices, resulting in a first-class facility that is safe and comfortable for spectators and augments the performances of student-athletes.

The renovation of Boswell Field was part of a larger project that constructed or renovated several spaces used by varsity and recreational athletes alike, resulting in the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation. Made possible by the extraordinary generosity of James F. ’56 and Cynthia L. Caird, the Caird Center unites several keystone elements of the Colleges' athletics complex, Bristol Field House, Elliott Varsity House, Froelich Gatehouse, Stiles Field at the Thomas B. Poole '61 and Family Sports Dome, and William Smith Field.

On Sept. 29, 2018, the stadium was named in honor of legendary Hobart coach David J Urick. In the annals of Hobart and William Smith Athletics history, few figures cast a longer shadow than Coach Urick, who led the Hobart lacrosse team to 10 straight NCAA Division III Championships during the 1980s.

Originally located on Pulteney St. where the Warren Hunting Smith Library stands today, Boswell Field was first constructed in the 1920s. Relocated to its current location in 1974, the Boz has hosted several NCAA football, lacrosse, and soccer playoff contests.

Fans are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the policies and procedures of Boswell Field.
